5 Ways To Heal With Water

Water has a memory and carries within it our thoughts and prayers. As you yourself are water, no matter where you are, your prayers will be carried to the rest of the world.” “To understand water is to understand the cosmos, the marvels of nature, and life itself.” -Masaru Emoto

It’s not surprising that water healing has been part of many cultures from the beginning of time. Water is life, we know this but how do we integrate it into our lives with intention? I have become fascinated with water as a teacher, guide, and healer. Water has so much to teach us and for many of us, we have the privilege of connecting with it daily but often take it for granted.

When I moved to Puerto Rico, I knew I would be closer to the ocean but I had no idea how close she and I would truly become. Daily, I go to the water and ask for cleansing and guidance. I have grown to appreciate the powerful, yet gentle, tender, yet intense, energy of the water element. My connection to the water led me to explore Masaru Emoto’s work which showed water can be impacted on a structural level, with intention. He has several books out about water and how emotions, intentions, thoughts and sound influences it. Check out his books if you want to explore more.

I will not try to summarize Emoto’s work here but emphasize his message about the incredible healing effects of water. Water holds memory and therefore has the ability to teach us about parts of us we have forgotten, release memories we no longer need to hold onto and bring healing information we need on a soul level.

These are my favorite simple ways to bring water healing into your day to day:

  1. Imbue Water with Sacred Intentions

Infusing or imbuing water with words or intentions before you drink, cook with or swim in it can be incredibly healing as your body soaks up the energy of not only the water, but the pure energy infused into it. To imbue my water, I hold out my hands or simply visualize light flowing into it. I will also speak words like “purify, peace, abundance, love” into the water. Whatever intention you have can be infused into your water source, bringing that intention into your body when you consume it.

  1. Cleansing + Fasting

I will preface this by saying I am not a doctor and am not advising anyone on the safety or efficacy of fasting with water. However, many cultures and spiritual communities have been fasting, only consuming water for centuries. Only consuming water on a fast can deeply connect you with water and purify your inner world. Water fasting is believed to help with mental clarity, spiritual connection, inflammation, and weight loss. You can read about my personal experience water fasting here.

  1. Listening with Water

“Water is the mirror that has the ability to show us what we cannot see.”

Have you ever put your head under water and simply listened? While under water, our nervous system slows and allows us to hear and sense beyond our ego selves. Next time you’re swimming or in the bath tub, hold your head under water and feel a wave of relaxation come over you. Of course, be conscious of your limits while holding your breath and don’t over do it. Pay attention to what images, thoughts, feelings emerge for you in this state. What is the water leading you to? Let go and listen.

  1. Ritual Baths

Bathing with intentions of cleansing a deeper wound can be so healing. Use the tip from above to imbue the water first, use your favorite oils, flowers or detoxing salts in the bath while setting an intention of letting go of something no longer serving you. I especially love rose and jasmine in my baths! When you are done with the bath, drain it and imagine that burden leaving your body. Check out the book Ritual Baths for extra inspiration for healing bath times.

5. Participate in a Water Healing Session.

My first time receiving energy healing in the water was incredible. Water helps us surrender even deeper and allows energy to flow throughout our bodies more effectively. I was able to float and be held by my practitioner in a way that made me feel so safe and supported that I hadn’t experienced on land. My body was flowing through the water releasing so much baggage and negative energy I had been holding for years, maybe lifetimes. That session inspired me to start my journey with water healing. I encourage you to look up local water healing guides or book a water healing session with me here.

Why is water healing so relevant now?

Emoto said: “By holding the intention of peace towards water, by thinking, speaking and acting with the intention of peace towards water, water can and will bring peace, to our bodies and to the world.”

So when you practice blessing the bodies of water around you, you bring healing to Mother Earth. When Mother Earth receives healing, we all do. The way I do this is by holding my hands out to the ocean(or lake, pond, stream, etc) and I imagine sending beams of light to it. I speak words of healing and pray for the ocean to be cleansed, purified, honored by all beings. I sit and ask what the body of water needs then pray for this to be brought forward. The power of prayer and energy are extremely helpful, even when calling on healing for something already so powerful like water + earth. They need us too.

How will you bring water healing into your day to day? I would love to hear!

Love,

April In The Water
